Born and raised in New York, handbag designer Scarlett Chamides graduated from Marymount Manhattan College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. At Marymount, Scarlett developed her artistic and entrepreneurial skills. Following in her parents creative footsteps…after graduation, she set out for Los Angeles to pursue a career in fashion. Scarlett worked as a “Gal Friday” for a high end handbag and accessory manufacturer. They exposed her to the major aspects of the Fashion Accessory Industry and after three short years, she was ready to break out on her own.
In January 2006, Scarlett created “Chamides Inc.” As president, designer, and sales administrator, Scarlett has poured her heart into her collections. And New Yorkers were quick to notice. Within a few months, Supplements, NY – one of the hottest showrooms in New York City – offered Scarlett a space. Now, Hollywood’s “It” girls, including Lindsay Lohan, Tori Spelling, Teri Hatcher, and Hillary and Haylie Duff, have fallen in love with her bags.
Scarlett’s inspiration comes from years of playing dress up in her mother’s closet. Whether strolling the beaches of Malibu or the streets of Manhattan, her collection transitions from coast to coast - day to night. Scarlett says she makes bags that complement any woman’s closet. You can see the vintage flare in the collection’s distressed leathers and rich textures. Her mother – who can pick out a great handbag with her eyes closed – is very proud.
